ABM is under total lockdown

NO shuttler will be allowed outside of the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara following the spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Although the BA of Malaysia (BAM) had strict standard operation procedures (SOPs) in place when they welcomed back their players in June, things got a little relaxed when the country recorded fewer cases.

Yesterday, the national body reintroduced some preventive measures following a surge in cases.

While training sessions will be carried out as per schedule, players and the administration staff of BAM will have to use separate routes at ABM.

Players will only be allowed to move within the compounds of the ABM and Juara Stadium until further notice.

BAM secretary general Datuk Kenny Goh said: "We have SOPs in place.

"The players are not allowed into the BAM office while the admin staff are barred from the training hall.

"In case of an emergency, the shuttlers can call or send a text message to our staff. The players are also not allowed to leave the ABM."

However, the national coaches are allowed to return to their homes and travel daily to conduct training under strict guidelines.

They need to wear face masks, practice social distancing and use hand sanitizers when they report for duty.

Mixed doubles chief coach Paulus Firman and his assistant Teo Kok Siang together with women's doubles coach Wong Pei Tty are the only coaches who stay at the ABM.

Kenny added that BAM will continue to monitor the situation and will adhere to the guidelines and safety measures by the National Security Council and the Health Ministry.
