Mei Kuan-Meng Yean aim to continue good run at World Tour

CHOW Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean have been enjoying a good run over the last two weeks, and the national women's pair hope to keep the momentum going.

After reaching the semi-finals of the Toyota Thailand Open last week, Mei Kuan-Meng Yean are looking forward to more top-quality action in the World Tour Finals, which starts tomorrow.

It would be the World No 14's maiden appearance at the season-ending finale.

Meng Yean said: "The Asian leg of the World Tour has been a great experience for us.

"In the first Thailand Open, we had struggled as we couldn't control the drift in the (Impact) Arena.

"The Koreans (Chang Ye Na-Kim Hye Rin), who knocked us out in the second round, were physically and mentally stronger than us.

"By the second tournament, Mei Kuan and I had figured out the drift, and that got us through to the semis.

"However, the Koreans (Kim So Yeong-Kong Hee Yong) were strong. We could not defend against them as their smashes were too powerful, and that is something we lack ."

Mei Kuan-Meng Yean, however, are not expecting much from the World Tour Finals but hope to score some upsets and qualify for their second semi-final in as many weeks.

"I think we know the pairs well, and we have been analysing them over the last two weeks.

"Mei Kuan and I are hoping to clear the group stage first to reach the semi-finals.

"We'd like to have another crack at the Koreans, but we are not expecting much.

"We have been playing well, and we hope to keep this going," Meng Yean added.

National No 2 Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen are the other women's pair making their first appearance in the World Tour Finals.

The other Malaysians who have qualified are Lee Zii Jia (men's singles), Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi (doubles) and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai (mixed doubles).

The draw for the World Tour Finals will be conducted today.
