Training continues as BAM await Olympics orders

Although preparations are in full swing for the Tokyo Olympics in July, BAM cannot make any further plans, not until the Movement Control Order (MCO) is lifted.

BAM coaching director Wong Choong Hann said training for the Road To Tokyo (RTT) players started on Tuesday.

However, he cannot say what is next as the MCO could be extended after June 7.

For the record, Malaysia has been recording an average of 7,000 new Covid-19 cases daily over the last seven days.

"We started our training yesterday (Tuesday), and everything has been going well so far.

"Our in-house building team have done a great job in preparing the training centre for the players, who can go through the programme and daily routine in a secure and safe environment.

"However, to think beyond June 7 is quite difficult. Seriously, I don't think anyone has a clue.

'We will have to wait and see what the government announces.

"What I can say is our preparation will not stop," said Choong Hann.

Initially, the BAM had planned to let their Olympic-bound players go on a short break to refresh, but it seems highly unlikely at this point.

Due to tighter standard operating procedures (SOP) implemented by the government recently, the BAM have temporarily stopped all other training programmes except for the RTT.

However, there is a group of junior players competing in the Austrian Open, which starts today, in Styria.
