Rejuvenated Kisona faces Spanish Inquisition

Shuttler S. Kisona believes it is high time to leave the past behind. The reigning Sea Games champion is optimistic about doing well at this week's Spanish International after struggling with form in the last couple of months.

"I don't want to link the forthcoming event with my previous competitions.

"Every tournament is a start for me as each of them has different levels of difficulty and its own challenges," said Kisona.

Following a decent start to the season, Kisona hit a brick wall when she suffered a first-round exit at the All England in March.

As a result, she was withdrawn from the Orleans Masters in Paris and the Spain Masters by the BA of Malaysia.

But all that is in the past.

Thanks to her improved form in training over the last few weeks, Kisona is raring to pick up the pieces and go again.

"I want to focus on Spain and concentrate on delivering my best," added Kisona, who has toughened up mentally and worked hard to improve her weaknesses.

The World No 61 is seeded fourth in La Nucia and will open her campaign against a qualifier on Thursday.

Also in the women's singles fray are two-time world junior champion Goh Jin Wei and Eoon Xi Quan.

All 12 players bound for Spain have been cleared to make the trip after testing negative for Covid-19.

The squad departed yesterday.
