Moving on after Orleans Masters disappointment

Up-and-coming men's doubles Wan Arif Junaidi-Haikal Nazri are ready to use the agony of missing out on their maiden World Tour title at the just-concluded Orleans Masters to fire up their podium bid at next month's Vietnam Sea Games.

World No 103 Arif-Haikal were forced to withdraw from Sunday's final against Dutch pair Ties Ruben Jille-Ties Van Der Lecq after Haikal tested positive for Covid-19.

However, the two 20-year-olds have taken the disappointment in their stride as they seek to justify their Sea Games debut with a medal-winning performance.

"We always believe that things happen for a reason. The 'rezeki' that eluded us this time could probably fall upon us in the next tournament," said Arif.

"I told Haikal not to feel down because we have a bigger assignment next month.

"We are really excited to be playing in the Sea Games for the first time.

"We have a massive responsibility on our shoulders, but we are relishing the challenge."

Arif-Haikal and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun will feature in both the men's doubles and team events in Vietnam.

Other Southeast Asian countries will not be fielding their top pairs as the Sea Games clashes with the Thomas Cup in Bangkok.

Indonesia, however, will still have formidable pairs in the fray at the Sea Games in recently crowned All England champions Shobihul Fikri-Bagas Maulana, world No 20 Pramudya Kusumawardana-Yeremia Rambitan and 25th-ranked Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin.

"We will likely face three strong Indonesian pairs at the Sea Games. However, if we do well enough, the results will come," he added.
