Kian Meng eyes a smashing 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: While mixed doubles shuttler Tan Kian Meng has a few things to be thankful for this year, he really wants to make it count next season.

Having reached a career high world No 7 recently apart from winning bronze at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and capturing the Korea Open, Kian Meng and his partner Lai Pei Jing look set to earn an Olympic qualifying spot for the 2024 Paris Games.

However, the world No 8 ranked duo will need to stay consistent throughout the one-year qualifying period that starts in May.

This year, despite carrying a hamstring injury, Kian Meng pushed on to earn a spot in next month's World Tour Finals.

"It has been an interesting season for Pei Jing and I. We're very thankful.

"I know this is not advisable but I've been pushing hard despite carrying an injury since the Denmark Open to collect points.

"My recovery since the Hylo Open has been good. I believe I will be ready in time for the World Tour Finals," he said.
