Pearly-Thinaah get RM37,500 boost for French Open win

KUALA LUMPUR: Womens doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah were rewarded by the BA of Malaysia (BAM) today, pocketing an additional RM37,500 for their recent French Open success.

In Paris last month, the world No. 9 created history by becoming the first Malaysian womens pair to win the French Open since its inception in 1908.

The victory in the Super 750 event earned them US$49,950 (RM223,800).

We are both happy and grateful to receive this reward. This will definitely motivate us to strive for better results in the future, said Pearly today.

Pearly-Thinaah can boost their coffers further when they make their second straight World Tour Finals appearance in Bangkok from Dec 7 to 11.

As one of the eight finalists in Bangkok, they are already assured of a US$10,500 (RM47,000) payout.

A mouth-watering US$126,000 (RM564,500) jackpot awaits the winners in the doubles events.

BAM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria said: Hopefully, this reward will spur Pearly-Thinaah on to excel at the World Tour Finals.
