Shuttlers June Wei, Jin Wei suffer Welsh International exit

KUALA LUMPUR: Independent shuttlers Cheam June Wei and Goh Jin Wei's bid to win their first title of the season at the Welsh International were dashed in Cardiff on Friday.

Both failed to get past their men's and women's singles quarter-finals, which they were seeded sixth and fifth respectively.

June Wei went down 21-14, 23-21 to world No 69 Jan Louda of Czech Republic, while Jin Wei was stunned 21-15, 21-15 by world 96 Amalia Schulz of Denmark.

The last eight exit is certainly not good for June Wei and Jin Wei, who are now training under Indonesian coach Nova Armada.

Jin Wei will now switch her attention to the Bangladesh International next week, while June Wei will defend his Malaysia International Challenge title from Dec 13-18.

The Malaysia IC was supposed to take place from Nov 15-20 but rescheduled due to 15th general election.

At last year's Welsh International, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun made it to the final before losing to South Korea's Kim Sa Rang-Kim Gi Jung.
