Kian Meng-Pei Jing achieve career-high ranking

KUALA LUMPUR: Independent mixed doubles Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing received a massive boost ahead of next month's Malaysia Open as they are now ranked World No 5.

On the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking list today, Kian Meng-Pei Jing moved one rung up to achieve their career-best ranking.

However, Kian Meng does not want to get too excited, despite achieving a career-high ranking, ahead of the Malaysia Open.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing will face BAM's new pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei in the first round of the Super 1000 tournament at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Jan 10-15.

"It is never easy going against a young pair, especially from Malaysia. Anything can happen. While we are excited over our new ranking, the focus is still on doing well in the Malaysia Open," said Kian Meng today.

In last year's edition, Kian Meng-Pei Jing crashed out in the first round to Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai, 18-21, 21-19, 18-21.

"I have recovered from a groin injury. I hope for better luck this time," he added.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing reached two semi-finals this year at the India Open and Swiss Open and won a gold (team event) and bronze (mixed doubles) at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Soon Huat-Shevon are the second highest-ranked Malaysian pair at No. 9.
