Time for Zii Jia to forget about badminton

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian badminton fans got a little teaser from Lee Zii Jia, after the men's singles shuttler posted a couple of short videos and pictures on his Instagram page.

The post which read "off season vibes", shows Zii Jia, who recently climbed back into the world top 10, going through some physical drills on a beach, with several persons, believed to be part of his Team LZJ.

Prior to this, the former All England champion had talked about making plans for a holiday, after a hectic 2023 season.

Zii Jia last competed in the China Masters in Shenzhen, where he lost in the quarter-finals.

Among the 25-year-old's best results this year were winning the Arctic Open, reaching the Denmark Open final, and the semi-finals of the All England, Swiss Open and Australian Open.

Zii Jia, who trains under Wong Tat Meng, is preparing for a crucial season, as he aims not only to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics but also to do well.

The former Asian champion will kick-start his campaign at the Malaysia Open on Jan 9-14 at the Axiata Arena.
