Pearly-Thinaah out for revenge in Indonesia Masters

KUALA LUMPUR: National women's pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah will have a chance to avenge their loss to China's Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning when they clash in Friday's quarter-final at the Indonesia Masters.

Pearly-Thinaah booked their spot after beating the French duo Margot Lambert-Anne Tran 21-14, 21-10 at Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

World No. 5 Sheng Shu-Tan Ning were barely troubled in their 21-15, 21-15 win against Malaysia's Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien in the other last-16 encounter.

Featuring in their first quarter-final of the year, Pearly-Thinaah will be eager to progress beyond that, but they must overcome Sheng Shu and Tan Ning in the rematch of the Malaysia Open first round two weeks ago.

Sheng Shu-Tan Ning went all the way to win the tournament, sensationally downing their world No. 1 senior compatriots Jia Yi Fan-Chen Qing Chen in the final.

However, Sheng Shu-Tan Ning proved they can be inconsistent after surprisingly exiting the opening round of the India Open last week.

Pearly-Thinaah will not be short of confidence, given they had managed to defeat the Chinese duo twice previously.

It was a disastrous day for Malaysia in the men's doubles, as all hopes were dashed with the eliminations of Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, and Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi were outplayed 21-15, 21-11 by the home pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, while Wei Chong-Kai Wun fell prey to Rian Ardianto-Fajar Alfian for the second consecutive week after last week's India Open, going down 21-18, 22-20 this time.

Hon Jian-Haikal saw their impressive 11-match unbeaten run come to an end as they were defeated 21-17, 21-19 by Denmark's Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard.
