KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei are through to the second round of the Petronas Malaysia Open.
On a day when men's singles Ng Tze Yong was forced to retire with an injury, Tang Jie-Ee Wei provided some cheer for local fans at the Axiata Arena when they ousted France's Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue 21-17, 21-18 in the opening round.
World No. 9 Tang Jie-Ee Wei will face either Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito or the United States' Vinson Chiu-Jennie Gai next for a place in the quarter-finals.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei were among the only Malaysian players to reach the last eight in last year's edition.
