Aaron-Wooi Yik advance, Sze Fei-Izzuddin a letdown

KUALA LUMPUR: Former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik swiftly dispatched Germany's Marvin Seidel-Mark Lamsfuss to advance to the second round of the French Open on Tuesday.

Aaron-Wooi Yik secured the victory as Lamsfuss succumbed to an injury during a closely contested match tied at 12-12 at the Adidas Arena in Paris.

Next up, Aaron-Wooi Yik will take on the Taiwanese duo Lee Fang Chih-Lee Fang Jen, who prevented an all-Malaysian clash by defeating Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani 21-19, 21-17.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin were a big letdown, as they had previously never lost to the Lee twins in three prior encounters.

The duo, who reunited in the middle of last year following a brief split, are facing significant scrutiny due to their recent string of poor performances, with no better than a last-16 finish in their last three tournaments.

In the women's singles, world No. 33 Goh Jin Wei's struggles continued as she suffered her third consecutive first-round defeat in as many tournaments, falling 21-10, 21-14 to world No. 9 Wang Zhi Yi of China.

Meanwhile, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai were unable to progress in the mixed doubles, succumbing 21-19, 21-16 to home favourites Thom Gicquel- Delphine Delrue.
