Malaysian cricketers recover from two losses

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia bounced back from two defeats to beat Singapore by 60 runs to finish third in Group A of the T20 World Cup Final Asia Tournament in Kathmandu today.

In the first two matches, Malaysia, ranked 25 in the world, lost by 32 runs to world No. 20 Oman and by six wickets to hosts and world No. 16 Nepal.

Malaysia won the toss and elected to bat first, and coach Bilal Asad's men did well to score 198 runs with the loss of four wickets.

Singapore, ranked 36th, needed a run chase of 199 but were restricted to 138 runs with all out with 13 balls to spare at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground.

But Malaysia failed to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup as only the finalists make the cut.

Captain Ahmad Faiz Noor posted 71 runs from 41 balls with two fours and six sixes while Sharvin Muniandy contributed 60 runs from 48 balls with eight fours.

Amir Azim Abdul Shukor was named the Man of the Match for taking five wickets.

Team manager Amy Mokhzani said the batters and bowlers did exceptionally well against Singapore.

"Proud of Amir for taking five wickets. Skipper Ahmad and Sharvin were sizzling in batting," said Amy.
