New route for 2018 LTdL to be revealed next week

KUALA LUMPUR: The new route for the 2018 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) is expected to be announced next week.

This latest development was made known by Ciclista Sports Sdn Bhd’s managing director, Shahirudeen Seeni Mohamad following the decision by the International Cycling Union (UCI) to keep the race to eight stages.

“We will announce the new route next week with changes at most being about 20 per cent compared to the original route announced prior to this.

“As best as possible we are trying our best not to make too many changes to the route because in terms of logistics, a lot has already been arranged and sorted out, such as accommodation and liaising with local authorities,” he explained.

The 2018 LTdL was initially approved by UCI to take place from March 3 to 10 with eight stages, however the application was altered to have two more stages apart from a change in dates from March 16 to 25.

However an email sent to the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) last Saturday, UCI informed that they have accepted the application to change the dates, albeit from March 18 to 25, as the world governing body for cycling rejected the request to add two more stages to the race.

Earlier, the race was launched last week with ten stages, beginning in Kangar and running through Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Johor and ending in Kuala Lumpur covering a distance of 1,537.2 kilometers.
