'M' says money on the way to LTdL winners

KUALA LUMPUR: All the winners in the 2018 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) can breathe a sigh of relief — they are to receive their prize money as early as next week.

LTdL chief executive officer M Kumaresan said they had earlier submitted a list of the winners of every stage to the Sports Ministry.

In response, the ministry had transferred the amount stipulated, on May 7, which means the event organiser, Ciclista Sports Sdn Bhd, is able to pay the riders as soon as possible.

“Now, we are in the midst of calculating the amount to be paid to the individual winners or teams, which can be credited into their accounts as early as next week,” said former national cyclist, Kumaresan, popularly known as ‘M’, in his heyday.

“We will also issue an official media statement in regard to the total amount paid to each winner after the money has been credited into each team’s account.”

Meanwhile, Kumaresan hopes the new government will continue to have faith in Ciclista to organise the LTdL next year, as stated in the contract signed with the sport ministry, previously.

He said this year’s edition was organised without a hitch. The March 18-25 event saw 22 teams (including two Pro Tour teams, Astana Pro Team and Dimension Data) cycling across 1,341km where Terengganu Cycling Team’s Artem Ovechkin of Russia was named as the yellow jersey and overall winner.
