Azizul on the double in China

KUALA LUMPUR: National hero Azizulhasni Awang sounded a warning to his rivals ahead of the Asian Games when he won two gold medals (keirin and sprints) at the China Track Cup on Thursday.

At the meet in Taiyuan. Azizulhasni crossed the keirin finish line ahead of China's Xu Chao and Wang Yibo who finished second and third consecutively.

Malaysia’s Shah Firdaus Sahrom who also qualified for the final, ended up fifth when he crashed into Bi Wenjun, who was disqualified.

On Wednesday, in the individual sprints, Azizulhasni won gold by beating Xu Chao to the gold, while Shah Firdaus took bronze.

"I qualified as the second fastest with 9.895s and challenged Xu Chao in the final in two challenging races.

“I am also proud of Shah and also Fadhil Zonis who clocked below 10s," said Azizulhasni.

Shah clocked a personal best of 9.912s while Fadhil recorded 9.997s.

The event in China is an avenue for Malaysia’s riders to collect points leading to the World Cup in November, and is also an Asian Games yardstick where Azizilhasni is targeted for gold.
