Fatehah hangs up her bicycle

NATIONAL track cyclist Fatehah Mustapa has called time on a 17-year career in the sport which has seen its fair share of ups and downs.

The two-time Olympian is regarded as the best female track cyclist the country has ever produced.

Among her best results were winning two Asian Championships titles, seven Sea Games gold medals and finishing on the podium in the UCI World Cup series.

Fatehah said: “I have decided to retire as a cyclist after 17 years.

“Big thank you as well to the National Sports Council and the other concerned parties.

“I am very proud to have been part of the national team at the Olympics (2012 London and 2016 Rio) and am honoured to have been the flag bearer for Malaysia at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games,” said Fatehah in a social media posting.

Fatehah also paid tribute to national head coach John Beasley, who had played a pivotal role in her development as a track cyclist.
