TSG in strong form ahead of Le Tour de Langkawi

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team's (TSG) preparations are going well ahead of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) from Sept 23-30.

The East Coast side emerged as overall team champions at the Tour of Iran-Azerbaijan (UCI 2.1) which concluded on Thursday.

TSG duo Anatolii Budiak (Ukraine) and Metkel Eyob (Eritrea) placed second and fifth respectively in the individual general classification (GC).

Budiak had on Monday won Grand Prix Kaisereia, a one day race (UCI 1.2), in Turkiye.

TSG's Dutch rider Jeroen Meijers also claimed the green jersey (points classification) and finished third in the GC at the Tour of Yigido (UCI 2.2) in Turkiye earlier this week.

Riders from TSG, who have squad big enough to split into two or three teams, will next compete at the Tour of Hokkaido in Japan on Sep 9-11 as part of their build-up for LTdL.

As of Aug 29, TSG are the top ranked team in the UCI Asia Tour standings and will be leading Malaysia's charge at LTdL.

The Kuala Terengganu-based UCI continental team won the red jersey (mountains classification) and the white jersey (Asian rider classification) through their riders Nur Aiman Zariff and Jambaljamts Sainbayar last year.

TSG's former rider Artem Ovechkin, who has since retired, won the LTdL yellow jersey for them in 2018.
