Azizulhasni clinches silver in Melbourne on his return from injury

Azizulhasni Awang capped the year on a positive note by winning the keirin silver medal at the Austral Wheel Race in Melbourne today — his first international competition since withdrawing from the Hangzhou Asian Games in September.

The 35-year-old settled for the silver medal behind Australia's rising star Thomas Cornish, while Malaysia's Shah Firdaus Sahrom won bronze at the Joe Ciavola Velodrome.

Another Malaysian, Fadhil Zonis, finished a respectable fifth.

Azizulhasni withdrew from the Asian Games due to injury sustained during a training session.

Despite the setback, it has been a promising season for the Dungun-born, who in June won the sprint and keirin titles at the Asian Championships in Nilai.

Meanwhile, in the women's keirin final, Nurul Izzah Izzati won a silver, finishing behind gold medallist Kristina Clonan of Australia, while Selina Ho took bronze.
