Azizulhasni wins gold in Track Nations Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Azizulhasni Awang won the keirin gold in the Adelaide leg of the Track Nations Cup today.

The 36-year-old, who recovered from pericarditis earlier this week, crossed the finish line in 9.910s to beat Japan's Shinji Nakano and Ota Kaiya.

Azizul showed he was in the mood for the gold after clocking 9.784s in the first round. In the second round, he finished third behind Australian Matthew Richardson and Xue Chenxi to advance to the finals.

In the final, Azizulhasni showed he was made of sterner stuff despite starting the race from the rails.

Malaysia's Fadhil Zonis' campaign ended in the first round repechage as he did not finish the race.

In the women's sprint first round, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri was shown the exit by Canadian Lauriane Genest while Anis Rosidi failed to make the cut in the qualifying round.
