Izzah triumphs in time trial, completes ACC double gold feat

KUALA LUMPUR: Izzah Izzati Asri capped her campaign at the Asian Track Cycling Championships (ACC) on a high note after recapturing the women's 500m time trial gold in New Delhi today.

She clocked a commendable 34.388 seconds to emerge victorious in the final of the event at the Indira Gandhi Velodrome.

South Korea's Hwang Hyeon-seo came in second (34.802s) while China's Luo Shuyan (34.958s) completed the podium.

It was Izzah's fourth medal of the tournament after earlier winning the keirin gold, silver in the team sprint, as well as bronze in the individual sprint.

It is the first time a Malaysian woman has won two gold medals in an edition of the ACC.

Izzah had earlier in the day topped the qualifying round on 34.442s.

The 20-year-old had also won the 500m time trial gold in 2022 when the ACC was also held in New Delhi.

She settled for silver in the event when it was held at the National Velodrome in Nilai last year.

Meanwhile, the men's 1km time trial today saw Ridwan Sahrom narrowly missing the podium by less than a tenth of a second. His 1:02.452s timing was good for fourth place.

Kazakhstan's Kirill Kurdidi came in third on 1:02.406s.

Gold and silver went to China's Li Zhiwei (1:00.875s) and Japan's Minato Nakaishi (1:02.101s)

The women's junior elimination race saw Intan Nur Irdrisha Abdul Razak claiming silver behind Taiwan's Huang Wen Xin.

Kazakhstan's Dinara Kopzhassarova completed the podium.
