KLCA vote out Razlan, Firdaus is acting president

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Cycling Association (KLCA) officially severed ties with Datuk Razlan Razali today.

The association held a committee meeting today which, among other agendas, decided on whether to accept or reject the resignation letter submitted by Razlan on March 16.

KLCA deputy president Firdaus Arshad said eight out of nine committee members voted to accept his resignation.

Firdaus is now the acting president for KLCA.

"The majority accepted his resignation, only one person had a different opinion," said Firdaus.

"The committee also unanimously voted to reject the three candidates for committee member positions nominated by the former president.

"From today onwards, Datuk Razlan officially has nothing to do with the association.

"Any protests can be directed to the Sports Commissioner's Office. We are prepared to answer to them."

Razlan, who won uncontested during the KLCA annual general meeting on Feb 25, resigned due to frustration with certain committee members whom he claimed were unwilling to address issues KLCA was facing with urgency.

Parents of former riders of KLCA had alleged there were issues involving racism, breach of trust and misuse of funds in the association in recent years. The complaints were forwarded to the Federal Territories Sports Council (FTSC).

The parents expressed their frustration with the association for not giving them a satisfactory explanation or room for discussion.

Firdaus and KLCA head coach Datuk Ng Joo Ngan have categorically denied the allegations.

On Saturday, Razlan expressed his willingness to stay with the association, saying his decision to resign was made in the heat of the moment following a fiery discussion with KLCA's committee members on the issues.

Firdaus said the FTSC had, via a letter, asked the KLCA to explain the issues that were raised.

"We received the letter from the FTSC on March 22 asking us to explain the issues highlighted by the parents," said Firdaus.

"We have been given seven days to respond. I foresee no issues providing them the information they seek.

"Once we have replied to the letter, we will find a suitable time to sit down and discuss all the issues with the parents."
