(Super League) JDT pull away from pack with win over Penang

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim soothed the pain of their FA Cup exit last weekend by beating Penang 2-1 on Wednesday to extend their lead at the top of the Super League table to five points.

Pahang, who eliminated Darul Ta'zim in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday, and Kedah again dropped points after being held to 1-1 draws by Felda United and Perak, respectively.

Darul Ta'zim secured their eighth victory in 11 league games for 26 points after winning the top against bottom clash at the Batu Kawan Stadium.

From Azamuddin Akil's cross, Gonzalo Cabrera looped a header over Penang goalkeeper Sani Anuar Kamsani in the sixth minute to put the visitors ahead before Aidil Zafuan Radzak set up Azamuddin for a simple tap-in 19 minutes later when Penang failed to deal with Safiq Rahim's free-kick.

Penang pulled one back in the 40th minute through Rafiuddin Roddin's penalty after Fazly Mazlan's foul on S. Kumaahran.

Pahang dropped points in Kuantan for a second consecutive game after Felda's Stuart Wark cancelled Matheus Alves' 19th-minute opener for Dollah Salleh's side.

Kedah needed a brilliant Baddrol Bakhtiar free-kick to earn a share of the points against Perak in Ipoh after trailing to a Hafiz Kamal goal on the hour-mark.

Fauzi Abdul Kadar's first goal of the season two minutes from time earned Kuala Terengganu T-Team a 1-0 home win over Selangor, who slipped from fourth to sixth in the standings.

Ilija Spasojevic scored twice, including a penalty, as Malacca drew 2-2 with PKNS at the Hang Jebat Stadium where all the goals in a 10-minute spell just before half-time. PKNS replied through Safee Sali and Patrick Wleh.

Sarawak became the 16th and last team to seal their Malaysia Cup berth after a 0-0 draw with Kelantan in Kuching with bottom-side Penang missing out again for a second straight year.
