Slim chances for national women footballers following second straight loss

SHAH ALAM: The national women’s football team can forget about winning a medal after they were hammered 5-0 by Myanmar in a round robin match at UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam tonight.

Asyraaf Abdullah’s side were defensively stout in the first half as the score stood at 0-0 at half-time but the floodgates opened for Myanmar after the breather.

It was Malaysia's second straight defeat in the competition, following the 2-1 loss to the Philippines on Tuesday.

They are not expected to gain points against the higher-ranked Thailand on Sunday and Vietnam on Aug 24.

Myanmar’s superiority in attack in the second half saw Malaysia’s Nur Athirah Farhanah Zairi scoring an own goal in the 48th minute.

Theigi Tun (63rd and 77th) and Khin Moe Wai (73rd and 79th) completed the rout for Myanmar.
