Football: Malaysia to take on Thailand in final of AFF Under-18 Championship

YANGON: Malaysia reached the final of the AFF Under-18 Championship when they edged Myanmar 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in regulation time at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon today.

Bojan Hodak’s side will play last year’s runners-up Thailand, who defeated Indonesia 3-2 on penalties, in Sunday’s final.

For the record, it will be Malaysia’s fifth final in the tournament, though they have failed to win in all previous four attempts.

“I only assembled the team two weeks before the tournament, and today we have reached the final,” said Hodak.

“What a day for us. It was difficult playing in front of a packed stadium, but my boys played to instructions and were not rattled.”
