KJ urges Malaysian players to join foreign clubs

KUALA LUMPUR: Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin wants players from last month’s Sea Games squad to accept offers, if any, from foreign clubs.

Adam Nor Azlin, Adib Zainudin and N. Thanabalan are among those who are currently on the radar of several clubs in Thailand.

“I am proud that teams from this region are keen on our Sea Games players,” said Khairy yesterday.

“It is a good sign and maybe we can look at avenues to provide better exposure for players under coaches Bojan Hodak (national under-19) and Lim Teong Kim (National Football Development Programme) after this.

“It is important for them to further their careers not only in Malaysia but also at clubs in Southeast Asia, Asia and if the opportunity arises in Europe as well.

“I believe if the under-22 team make further inroads, our senior team will be feared within five years.”

Khairy also applauded Hodak’s boys’ performance in the ongoing AFF Under-18 Championship. The team will face Thailand in the final today.

“Our youth teams are showing great progress. The changes brought by the new FA of Malaysia (FAM) leadership are starting to show results,” he added.
