Fadhli appointed Malaysia captain

BURIRAM: Centre-back Fadhli Shas will captain Malaysia in tonight's Asian Cup qualifying Group B match against North Korea at I-Mobile Stadium.

Fadhli, who is making his return to the national team after a year, replaces his Johor Darul Ta'zim teammate Safiq Rahim who is suspended.

National coach Nelo Vingada said Fadhli was picked as he has a strong character.

"Fadhli is my choice and I believe he will do a great job," said Vingada on Friday.

Fadhli, 26, said it is an honour to captain the national team and he hopes to lead his side to victory tonight.

"I hope we can do well and make an impression. We want a positive result tonight," said Fadhli, who was part of Malaysia's 2010 AFF Cup and 2011 Sea Games winning teams.
