Akhyar catches the attention of Asian clubs

ALOR STAR: Akhyar Rashid’s fine performance at the recent AFC Under-23 Championship has caught the attention of football clubs across Asia.

Rafdi Rashid, who is Akhyar's older brother and a former Kedah footballer, said an agent has been negotiating with the teen star to join clubs in Thailand, Japan and Indonesia.

The 18-year-old is now said to be on the radar of Thai club Buriram United following his stunning performance.

"An agent called me and has expressed interest in getting Akhyar to play in clubs in Asia.

“They are waiting for Akhyar to return after the AFC Championship in China,” he said.

However, Rafdi stressed that Akhyar, who is a Kedah winger, will give priority to Kedah FA before making any decisions to leave the club.

The talented player signed a two-year contract with Kedah last season.

Akhyar played for the Kedah youth team in 2014-2015 before moving up to the President's Cup team in 2016. And the big break came when he joined the Kedah senior squad last year.

He played for the national Under-17 team in 2015, the Under-19 last year, and was called up for the AFC Under-23 championship this month.
