TMJ names his successor [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Outgoing FA of Malaysia (FAM) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ) has recommended his general secretary, Datuk Hamidin Amin, as his successor.

While nominating deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi to temporarily lead the national body until the 64th FAM Congress on July 14, Tunku Ismail said Hamidin has the best background to become FAM president.

"Following my resignation as president, I would like to recommend Datuk Yusoff Mahadi to be appointed as acting president until the 64th FAM Congress on 14 July 2018," said Tunku Ismail in a posting on FAM's Facebook page after making official his decision to step down as president in Johor Baru today.

"In my opinion, the most qualified candidate to lead the FAM afterwards is general secretary Datuk Hamidin Amin, who has served Malaysian football for a long time."

Yusoff is one of two deputy presidents at FAM, the other being FA of Selangor (FAS) president Datuk Subahan Kamal while Hamidin, who joined FAM from FAS in 2013, is a widely-admired football administrator

.

"If we look at Fifa, some of their presidents came with general secretary background because they understand football administration," said Tunku Ismail.

"I also have a very good relationship with Datuk Hamidin and this will facilitate the partnership between FAM and the Malaysian Football League.

"If Datuk Hamidin is voted as FAM president by affiliates, I will give my full support to him and ensure FAM's income is secure. I hope all affiliate members will support Datuk Hamidin as FAM president."

The executive committee is expected to meet in the coming days to discuss Tunku Ismail’s resignation, among other issues.
