Tony Fernandes and Vincent Tan too busy to run FAM?

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Football Coaches Association (MFCA) president B. Sathianathan feels that Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Tan Sri Vincent Tan are not the most suitable persons to lead the FA of Malaysia (FAM).

The former national coach said this is because Tony and Vincent, who own Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City, are unlikely to have much time to manage FAM.

"Do they have the time? This is the national body we are talking about, not a club. FAM need a full time president to ensure that all administration work is done well," said Sathianathan today.

"The president has to constantly monitor administration of FAM and make the decision to call for a meeting at least once every two weeks. I am not sure but I think both of them do not have the time to manage FAM.

"Maybe they can become patron. It is not easy to manage FAM.

“On the other hand, it is easy to manage a club. You can make changes by having a lot of funding but it is not so simple at the national level."

Mohd Sadek Mustaffa, a senior lecturer with Universiti Teknologi Mara, Shah Alam Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, had said yesterday he believes that Tony and Vincent are among those that should be considered for the FAM president’s post apart from FAM secretary general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.

Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who resigned as FAM president on Sunday, named Hamidin as the person he believed is most qualified to replace him.

Sathianathan, who also backed Hamidin for the post, said: “Hamidin is the most qualified, he knows everything about administration within FAM and he is not tied to any other job, especially at club level."
