Pahang may field four foreign players in attack

KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang’s attack is expected to be led by four foreign players when they face Kedah in a Super League match on Tuesday.

Brazilian forward Patrick Cruz will be paired up with Austin Amutu of Nigeria while Canadian Issey Nakajima-Farran and Gambian Mohamadou Sumareh will both operate from the flanks.

Amutu and Nakajima-Farran were signed during the second transfer window as replacements for Cambodian Chan Vathanaka and Liberian Francis Forkey Doe.

Sumareh, however, will undergo a late fitness test ahead of the match.

Pahang coach Dollah Salleh said Cruz and Amutu have been impressive as an attacking pair in training.

"Everything is looking good in attack except that Sumareh is still doubtful but I have an able replacement if he does not play.

"It is the first game for Amutu and Nakajima-Farran and I hope they can adapt accordingly against Kedah.

“Previously, we were only relying on Cruz but now we have others who can score. I expect a high tempo performance from my team tomorrow,” said Dollah in Kuantan.

Dollah disclosed that he may reshuffle his defence as centre-back Afif Amirudin is nursing an injury.

"I am not in favour in bringing Safuwan Baharudin to partner Muslim Ahmad in defence as I feel we need the Singaporean in midfield. Safuwan has been doing a great job in creating chances for our strikers,” he said.

Dollah added: “As this is my first experience preparing a team for matches in the fasting month, I have been consulting my assistant Ahmad Shaharuddin Rosdi on how to get the players prepared accordingly.”

Pahang have a sixth foreign signing in Brazilian Alex Moraes but it is learnt that he has been loaned out to Negri Sembilan.
