Sabah focus on Super League promotion

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah coach Jelius Ating has reminded his players to maintain their recent good form for Tuesday's Premier League match against Sarawak at the State Stadium in Kuching.

With five matches left to play, Sabah are currently fifth with 21 points.

Only the top two teams will get promoted to the Super League next season.

Felda United lead the league with 36 points, 11 more than Felcra and Police.

The top five teams in the second-tier competition will qualify for the Malaysia Cup.

"Our targets are the same... we want to qualify for the Malaysia Cup and also earn promotion to the Super League.

"We need to work hard and avoid dropping points in our remaining five matches.

"It is not impossible as long the players give their 100 per cent," said Jelius on Monday.

The 47-year-old also said his players must show grit and determination like they did in the come-from-behind 3-2 win over Mifa on June 20 when they play Sarawak.

"We bounced back from two goals down to beat Mifa.

"However, my players take a long time to adapt during matches and this is a problem for us.

"It was evident against Mifa as we conceded two goals in the opening 25 minutes.

"We cannot afford this tomorrow as Sarawak are a quality team," Jelius added.

Regulars Maffry Balang and Jenius Karib will not be available again as they are still recovering from injury problems.

However, Maxsius Musa will return after serving a suspension.
