Door is still open for players

KUALA LUMPUR: The injury status of Aidil Zafuan Abd Razak and Syamer Kutty Abba has become a question mark after both players were on the bench for Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Mifa in the Malaysia Cup.

The players were previously released as both were carrying injuries by national youth coach Ong Kim Swee prior to his Under-23 team’s friendly against China last Thursday which they lost 2-1.

Aidil, 31, who is one of three overaged players called up for the Indonesia Asian Games, and Syamer, 20, however, did not see action against Mifa.

Kim Swee said the door is still open not only to the JDT duo but also Matthew Davis and Nor Azam Azih, who were not released by Pahang due to the Malaysia Cup.

"Whether it is the injured players or those who have yet to report for duty, the door is still open. We will, however, have to evaluate their fitness levels first.

"For those who have yet to report for duty, it is up to them as we still have time before we leave for Jakarta (on Aug 13),” said Kim Swee.

The former national coach needs the services of the four players as he cannot call up replacements who are not in the 30-member provisional list.

Kim Swee hopes his team will be able to play a friendly on Friday before he finalises his 20-member squad.

Malaysia will open their Asian Games Group E campaign on Aug 15 against Kyrgyzstan, followed by defending champions South Korea (Aug 17) and Bahrain (Aug 20).
