More naturalised players to come after this?

KUALA LUMPUR: FA of Malaysia (FAM) have indicated that they are ready to use even more naturalised players to bolster the national team in the future.

This latest development was made known by FAM president, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin via a statement following the Malaysia Football League’s (MFL) move to reduce the Naturalised Player Rules period for Pahang forward, Gambian born Mohamadou Sumareh, which was announced earlier today (Tuesday).

“This decision can be regarded as an opening of a path for FAM to move towards getting a few more naturalised players to strengthen the Harimau Malaya squad in the future.

“This development will also serve as motivation for Sumareh himself who has just been called up for the very first time to take part in centralised training by national coach Tan Cheng Hoe on Monday.

“The unilateral support from MFL led by Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim is lauded by FAM as together we have been working to further improve the national team.

“Apart from this, at the same time it will also improve on the quality of competition for the Malaysia League (M-League) which is organised by MFL,” he said.

Earlier, FA Cup champions Pahang were able to breathe a huge sigh of relief after it was revealed that Sumareh could be registered as a local player for the M-League during the second transfer window from March onwards next year.
