Malaysia to face Thailand in AFF Cup semis

KUALA LUMPUR: As expected, defending champions Thailand topped Group B of the AFF Cup by thrashing Singapore 3-0 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Sunday.

With the result, Thailand will play Malaysia in the semi-finals. Malaysia will host Thailand in the first leg on Dec 1 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. The return leg will be hosted in Bangkok on Dec 5.

Philippines joined Thailand in the last-four following a 0-0 draw with Indonesia in Jakarta, also on Sunday, and will play Group A champions Vietnam on Dec 2 and Dec 6 for a place in the final.

On Sunday, Thailand were handed a gift when Singapore defender Irfan Fandi scored an own goal in the 12th minute.

Supachai Jaided (23rd) and Adisak Kraison (90th) completed the rout for the Thais.

Adisak is the leading scorer in the tournament with eight goals, four more than Malaysia’s Norshahrul Idlan Talaha.
