MFL call for 'clear the air' meeting over Akhyar Rashid case

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Football League (MFL) want to arrange for a ‘clear the air’ meeting between Kedah FA (KFA) and FAM soon.

MFL hope a powwow between the two parties can settle the issue which could end up being dragged to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The objective of the meeting is for KFA to get a better understanding of the situation that arose from Kedah’s Akhyar Rashid joining Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

MFL chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam said the “issue” has been much publicised, leading to confusion over Akhyar’s transfer.

He hopes a discussion between the related parties would ease the situation.

“There needs to be a sit-down to discuss what is right and what is wrong. They should find a solution instead of voicing about it publicly.

“I hope there is a discussion between the MFL, FAM and KFA for us to go through the black and white and understand why certain decisions were made instead of responding through public avenues.

“We (MFL) have studied it and it was a rather straightforward issue but when people tried to publicise the matter, it became confusing to the public and the full picture is not conveyed,” said Kevin.

Last Wednesday, KFA president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was reported as saying they will only be satisfied with a decision by CAS on their claim that JDT were poaching 19-year old Akhyar.

Earlier FAM had decided on a RM75,000 compensation fees to KFA if any team want to sign him and Akhyar needs to redeem the remainder of his RM210,000 contract.
