Youngsters offer exciting future

COACH Brad Maloney has predicted a bright future for Malaysian football after his team qualified for the Asian Under-19 finals next year in convincing fashion.

And their success, achieved in the AFC Under-19 championship in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last week, also brought some much needed cheer for football fans in the country.

It can be said Malaysia are now among the best 16 in Asia, and the team display their own brand of exciting football.

“The qualifying round was very challenging but in the end, the players succeeded because of their hard work and desire to get the best result everytime they get on the pitch.

“If the players keep working hard to improve themselves and their playing style, I believe football in Malaysia has a bright future,” said Maloney yesterday.

As group winners, Malaysia qualified for the Asian Under-19 finals in Uzbekistan next year.

For the record, Maloney’s boys won Group G by beating Cambodia 5-4, Brunei 11-0, Northern Mariana Islands 10-0 and Thailand 1-0.
