Nothing for a coach to be ashamed of

Former Negri Sembilan and Melaka coach Mat Zan Mat Aris feels there is nothing to be ashamed of in taking charge of a lower level team.

The 61-year-old Mat Zan said this after he agreed to coach Melawati FC, who play in the M3 League, which is below the Super League and Premier League, for the new season starting on Feb 28.

Mat Zan wants to repeat the success that he had with Melaka when the team under him, emerged as the winners of the FAM Cup in 2015.

Mat Zan, who won three Malaysia Cups as a midfielder with Kuala Lumpur (1987-1989), said he wants to impart his knowledge to the Melawati FC players.

“Every coach has his expertise and experience,” he said. “One should not hesitate to teach it to others or help in any way.”

Mat Zan feels that if more coaches are to do so, it will help in the overall development of Malaysian football.

“I am sure the young players will want to learn more from the experienced coaches,” he said.
