Celine making headlines in Munich

WOMEN'S football is not popular in the country, but it has not stopped youngster Celine Chuang from dreaming big.

Celine, a member of the national Under-15 team, has created history by becoming the country's first female player to play for a big club in Europe.

The 15-year-old is currently with Bayern Munich and has been playing for their women's Under-17 B team since July.

"I started training seriously around four years ago when I was 11 at the Bintang Baru Sports Association in Penang," Celine told the FA of Malaysia (FAM) yesterday.

"I like this sport because it is challenging. Football is a stress reliever for me."

With a strong desire to improve, Celine decided to move to Phuket, Thailand to undergo training at the British International School's Cruzeiro Football Academy for two years before moving to Munich.

Her life changed when her family decided to move to Munich.

In the hope of becoming a professional footballer in the women's Bundesliga, Celine took another brave step by attending trials at the Bavarian club in February.

"All my efforts paid off when I was selected as one of the 10 players for their Under-17 B team.

"I also play for the boys' Under-15 Wacker Munchen team."

Celine added it took some time for her to get used to the life in Munich.

"The community here, however, is friendly and welcoming. Thanks to them, I have adapted quickly.

"Currently, we are training via online due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Celine made headlines recently when she scored a goal each in the boys' Under-15 and girls' Under-17 German leagues.

Last year, she scored her first international goal for the national women's Under-15 team in the 2-1 win over Cambodia in Thailand at the AFF Championship.
