New Perak coach happy with the team

IT has been less than a week since Chong Yee Fatt took over as Perak FC coach from Australian coach Mehmet Durakovic, and he is surprised to see his team in good shape.

Yee Fatt, who started work on Tuesday, was expecting the worst considering that the players had faced Covid-19 uncertainties when they reported for pre-season training under former coach, Durakovic.

"I am grateful to Durakovic, who recommended me to the management when he decided to part ways due to family matters in Australia.

"I told the players that there would be ups and downs along the way.

"However, I reminded them that we need to connect as a team ahead of the new M-League season," said Yee Fatt.

Yee Fatt hinted that there would be minimal tactical changes for the new season.

"I will add new ones here and there but nothing major to tighten up our game.

"Most of them have been together for about five years, so it is easier to get things done," said Yee Fatt, who had worked with Perak in 2017.

"I know about 70 per cent of the players as they were around when I was at the club in 2017. We will reinforce one or two positions to create options. We need depth on the bench.

"Overall, I believe the players can do the job. They are doing well in training, and it is something positive."

Perak will open their campaign against PJ City FC at home on March 6 before playing Sri Pahang (March 10) and Terengganu (March 14).
