Bernhardt joins the ranks of the 'rested'

COACH Frank Bernhardt has now joined the dubious "rested" club of the M-League this season.

UiTM FC confirmed yesterday that Bernhardt has been "rested" following the club's poor run in the Super League.

The German is the second coach in the Super League to be relieved of his duties after Thomas Dooley of Sri Pahang.

Dooley was rested after Sri Pahang suffered defeats in their opening two Super League matches. He is now their Under-21 side's adviser.

Bernhardt, however, is not the only UiTM coach to be rested.

His assistant, Wan Mustafa Wan Ismail also suffered a similar fate.

UiTM have earned only a point in their first seven matches and are 12th in the standings.

It is learnt that the management made the immediate decision to rest the Bernhardt after the 3-2 defeat to Perak on Wednesday.

UiTM technical director Reduan Abdullah has taken over as interim coach, with Ismail Ibrahim acting as assistant.

UiTM entertain Melaka in Shah Alam today.

UiTM FC chief executive officer Mustaza Ahmad said: "Our foreign signings have not been performing, so maybe he (Bernhardt) is not using a suitable system. We had advised him on that.

"We are studying what we need to beef up before the mid-season transfer window. We hope we can get good players, so that we may be able to utilise him again.

"For now, we want to see how Reduan and Ismail perform as coaches," said Mustaza.
