JDT are not 'Superman'

JOHOR Darul Ta'zim (JDT) are not Superman.

JDT coach Benjamin Mora said his men are not as invincible as the DC comic superhero following the 1-1 draw with Kuala Lumpur City in Friday's Super League clash at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras.

It is the second straight week JDT have failed to collect maximum points in the league. Last week, the reigning champions lost 1-0 to Terengganu at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.

Although the Southern Tigers, who have 24 points, will remain at the top of the standings after 11 rounds of matches, they are not as invincible as before.

Other teams will definitely fancy their chances of denying the seven-time champions the title this year.

The City Boys scored first through Colombian midfielder Romel Morales (45th minute) before Singapore captain Harris Harun equalised for JDT in the 55th minute.

Despite the setback, Mora has downplayed the uncharacteristic wobble from his men.

The Mexican also believes striker Bergson da Silva will regain his form after drawing blanks in the last two matches.

"All teams will have setbacks. We have been on the top for a long time. We are not Superman. Sometimes, we will experience setbacks," said Mora on Friday.

"Maybe for some of us, there is some pressure. However, we will focus on what we can do. Furthermore, we are still at the top of the table.

"Da Silva has been drawing blanks, but we hope he scores in the next game. Sometimes strikers score a lot, and sometimes they don't.

"We will help Da Silva to regain his form. However, he does more than just score in matches.

"We will work harder ahead of the next game," Mora added.

KL coach Bojan Hodak was glad to earn a point on Friday. He had to reshuffle his lineup in the absence of Mauritanian striker Dominique da Sylva, who is recovering from an injury.

"It is a fair result. When you play against the best team in the country with a budget probably 10 times more than you, then earning a point is good," said Hodak, who had guided JDT to their first Super League title in 2014. "Players like Da Sylva only needs one or two chances to score a goal, while Morales, who is not a natural striker, may need more opportunities to find the net.

"Morales did not score in earlier matches, but he made it count in this game. Overall, he did well besides scoring that goal.

"I think we are improving as a team. We played well against Terengganu (1-0) and Kedah (3-2) but did not earn points, although we had a 50 per cent chance of doing so."

KL are seventh in the league with 13 points.
