No celebratory centennial for Perak

Perak's centennial celebration this year could see their proud record of never being relegated from the M-League end.

The Bos Gaurus have stayed in the top division since the introduction of the league system in Malaysian football in 1982.

However, a player exodus could see them getting relegated from the Super League this season.

It is learnt that players at Perak, who are ninth in the table with 12 points, have not been paid salaries for over two months.

On Friday, the players and the coaches boycotted training in Ipoh.

And yesterday, their skipper Shahrul Saad and naturalised Brazilian striker Guilherme de Paula were announced as Johor Darul Ta'zim's new signings.

It is learnt that the other foreign signings — Singaporean defender Shakir Hamzah and Brazilian duo Careca and Leandro dos Santos — are the next to abandon the sinking ship.

Local players Azri Ghani, J. Parthiban and D. Kenny Palraj are expected to leave as well.

Perak FC chief executive officer Rizal Ali Naizali denied that the club had not paid salaries to the players for more than two months. He claimed the club had made salary payments in March.

However, Rizal admitted that their three Brazilian imports — de Paula, Careca and dos Santos — have not been paid in full due to insufficient funds.

The management had an emergency meeting with the players yesterday.

However, both parties failed to come up with an agreement.

"The management were angry after we refused to train yesterday (Friday) and for claiming that they had not paid salaries," said a source from the Perak team.

"They failed to offer a solution for the issue. They only explained the club's financial situation and could not guarantee salary payments.

"However, they have promised to settle last month's wages before Hari Raya. They could not promise us anything when asked whether we would be receiving our salaries for this month.

"The players are unhappy and looking to quit the team."
