Persian touch for Kuala Lumpur FC

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City FC are set to get some Persian flavour.

KL City, who finished sixth in this season's Super League, have signed a two-year partnership with Iranian club Foolad Mobarekh Sepahan SC.

On Saturday, the two clubs signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which entails a knowledge exchange, player transfers and friendly matches.

KL City chief executive officer Stanley Bernard said the MoU may also see attachment stints for their young players with the Iranian club.

"The key aspect for us in this MoU is that they are willing to part with some of their coaching aspects, sharing of sports science knowledge and also attachment for young players," said Stanley.

He said Sepahan could also send over some of their young players to KL on-loan to play in the M-League.

Sepahan are ranked third in Iran, behind Persepolis and Esteghlal, and 14th in Asia. This season, they emerged second in the Persian Gulf Pro League.

They finished second in the 2007 Asian Champions League, and were five-time Persian Gulf Pro League champions. Their striker, Sajjad Shahbazzadeh, was named as this season's Golden Boot winner with 20 goals.
