Hublot kicks off World Cup clock

KUALA LUMPUR: The countdown to next year's World Cup in Qatar has begun, and Hublot is timing every second of it.

Luxury Swiss watch company Hublot, which is as excited as every football fan on the planet, announced the unveiling of the World Cup Qatar Official Countdown Clock on Sunday.

The launching of the countdown marked one year until the World Cup gets underway on Nov 21, 2022.

The countdown was started by French World Cup winner and Hublot Friend of the Brand, Marcel Desailly, who was joined on stage by Sami Trabelsi, coach of Al Sailiya and local ambassador Adel Khamis.

The clock, which forms part of a striking sculpture that stands 5,75m high, will stand on Qatar capital, Doha's Corniche Fishing Spot, a beautiful pier overlooking the shimmering waters of the Persian Gulf.

Hublot first timed the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, a role it reprised four years later in Brazil and then again in Russia in 2018.

The company has also been entrusted with timekeeping at the European Championship, the Champions League and the English Premier League.

It's also the Official Watch for prestigious clubs such as Juventus, Chelsea, Ajax and Benfica. And among its brand ambassadors are Pele, Jose Mourinho, Didier Deschamps and French striker Kylian Mbappé.
