Hamidin undeterred

FA of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Amin is not a football man who easily succumbs to pressure.

Of late, fans on social media and many online portals have been urging Hamidin and his executive committee members to take responsibility by resigning for Harimau Malaya's failure at the AFF Cup last month.

However, the no-nonsense Hamidin is unperturbed by the calls.

Instead, he wants to work harder to achieve his goals to uplift the standard of the game in the country.

FAM came under fire when the national team failed to make the semi-finals of the AFF Cup, which was followed by the resignation of coach Tan Cheng Hoe.

Hamidin is on his second term as president, which ends in 2025.

"I know that some of the football fans want me out, and I have no qualms stepping down. I am here because of my passion for football and the country.

"I think I have done something good for Malaysian football, and I believe I can do more," Hamidin told Timesport yesterday.

"Of course, the national team's performance will reflect on the association in a good or bad way. But as president, I have several other things to manage, not only the national team.

"I have to think about women's football, youth development, coaching, referees department, administration and finances.

"I know some want me out, and I am not thinking about the third term for now. I am more focused on getting our new training centre (in Putrajaya) and improving the national team."

Hamidin also said the national body are looking for a suitable local coach to assist newly appointed Harimau Malaya head coach Kim Pan Gon.

Pan Gon will likely hold his first national training camp in March ahead of the Asian Cup qualifiers in June.

"It has always been a practise to hire a local coach as an assistant for a foreign head coach."

"The technical director (Scott O'Donnell) will come out with a list of requirements for a local coach to join Pan Gon. From there, we will look for a suitable candidate."
