Sabah plan to fine Saddil for going AWOL

KUALA LUMPUR: Winger Saddil Ramdani, 23, faces a fine as he has yet to return to his club, Sabah, from international duty with the Indonesian senior team.

He played in the Asian Cup qualifiers and helped Indonesia qualify for next year's tournament proper.

He was part of Indonesia's Sea Games team which won a bronze medal in Hanoi last month.

Saddil was supposed to report back to Sabah on June 16, two days after Indonesia's final Group A Asian Cup qualifier against Nepal which ended in a 7-0 win for the Asean team.

"Saddil was supposed to report back to the club two days after Indonesia's final international match. However, he has yet to return to Kota Kinabalu," said Sabah coach Ong Kim Swee.

"The club may issue him a fine and stern warning. This is unacceptable."

Indonesian fans had criticised Sabah after the club first did not release Saddil for the Sea Games. However, Sabah later decided to release him for the biennial event.

After the Sea Games, Saddil returned to Sabah and played in the Super League. He was then released again for the Asian Cup qualifiers.
