JDT coach aims to capture league title on Aug 26

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) coach Esteban Solari hopes to clinch the Super League title on Aug 26 in Alor Star.

If the Southern Tigers beat Kedah on that day, they can look forward to claiming their 10th consecutive league title.

It will also be JDT's second trophy of the season as they had won the FA Cup last month.

On Sunday, JDT stretched their lead at the top of the table to 17 points over second-placed Selangor after whipping Perak 5-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

JDT now have 60 points from 20 wins in a row.

JDT smashed Perak with goals from Heberty Fernandes (21st minute), Matthew Davies (27th) Bergson da Silva (35th), Oscar Arribas (55th) and Juan Muniz (66th).

Before meeting Kedah, the Southern Tigers will host Kelantan in the Malaysia Cup round of 16 return leg on Saturday.

"We are so close to winning this championship and hopefully we will have a 'final' in Kedah, a chance to celebrate but we will have to wait," said Solari.

To date, JDT's most dominant league campaign was in 2018 when they sealed the title with four games remaining. They collected 59 points from 22 matches while second-placed Perak trailed by 23 points.
