FAM president Hamidin demands more from coaches despite progress

KUALA LUMPUR: FAM president Datuk Hamidin Amin is not the type of person that slaps himself on the back over a bit of good result.

Though Malaysia's football ranking is soaring, the international results are encouraging and the losses are lesser, Hamidin is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

The FAM boss said all the national coaches, including the chief, Kim Pan Gon, cannot be too comfortable although they have been producing positive results.

As far as Hamidin is concerned, the national coaches still have plenty to achieve.

"For example, people are saying KPG (Kim Pan Gon) is good... he's doing well with the team but I want more from him," said Hamidin.

He added that he has always demanded positive results from all the coaches, including Pan Gon.

"We cannot be at the level we were at 30-40 years ago. We want changes and we need individuals (national coaches) who are knowledgeable and can give high commitment.

"My KPI is high, it doesn't matter if they are assistant coaches, from the women's team or futsal."

For now, South Korean Pan Gon is riding high following a string of positive results since taking over the national team in 2022.

He has an impressive 66.67 winning percentage as Harimau Malaya posted 16 wins, four draws and four defeats in 24 matches which saw their world ranking rise from No. 145 to 134 currently.

Harimau Malaya have taken a bold attacking approach, and for the first time in 43 years, qualified for the 2024 Asian Cup.

Malaysia booked a place in the Asian Cup after finishing among the best five runners-up in the third round of the qualifying stage in June, 2022.
